Chris Hardy says that Whitby Town deserve their spot at the top of the BetVictor Northern Premier after a strong start to the season.

The Blues secured their spot as they defeated Hyde United 2-0 at the Towbar Express Stadium at the Turnbull Ground yesterday afternoon.

This was the Seasiders’ sixth straight victory in all competitions and also a fourth clean sheet in a row for Shane Bland.

“I think we deserve to be at the top,” said Hardy.

“We’re winning football games with a little bit to spare. Against Hyde we delivered a perfect performance.

“We played in difficult conditions with the sun and wind. We defended well in the first half and did well to ensure that we went in at 0-0.

“Dale Hopson delivered for us in the second half and we were able to build on that and secure the victory.”

Speaking of Hopson, the midfielder made an instant impact as he scored within minutes off coming on from the bench.

The team captain has had a wretched time with injury so far in this campaign, but he certainly made his presence known as he scored a superb solo goal.

“He’s a top, top player,” Hardy stated.

“We were looking for something in the game and Dale gave us something that was match winning.

“His goal proved to be that. It’s a shame he missed his penalty but I’m pleased we had players there to follow up.”
